Following the surgery, you may feel groggy and sleepy as a result of the anesthetic. Most patients will find that their throat feels slight sore after the procedure. This is perfectly normal and usually be given painkillers while being in the hospital. After the surgery, your tonsils will be covered by white coating. As the throat heals, the white coating gradually disappears. This takes about 5 days. It is important to clean your teeth regularly as this helps fight infection in the mouth.
Pain relief: Once you returned home, still will have a sore throat therefore your surgeon prescribing painkillers for the next 7 days after the operation. The pain usually will be reduced within couple of days and gradually improves within a week.
Eating and drinking: After procedure, you have to start drinking liquids two hours after the operation and can start eating several hours after that. It is also very important to drink plenty of fluids. You may want to take painkiller about an hour before you eat, as this may make it easier for eat and swallow the food.
Avoid:
- Very hot baths and showers!
- Aspirin before or after operation
- Moderate and heavy physical activity, including sport for ten days – Bending down to pick things up, especially heavy weights.
