Tonsillotomy

Tonsillotomy (Partial Tonsillectomy)

The tonsils are small lumps of tissue located at the back of the throat as part of the immune system, which helps fight infection and protects the body from bacteria and viruses. If you had recurring bouts of tonsillitis it could be enlarged and cause blockage in your airway. Dr Levente may suggest to reducing its size by shaving of the extra surface. The main advantage of this operation type against standard tonsillectomy is the reduced risk of bleeding and much less pain after the surgery.

What is the difference between Tonsillotomy vs Tonsillectomy?

A tonsillotomy is an operation, when – instead of the entire tonsillar tissue removed – just those part shaved off which are blocking your airway. The main advantage of this type of operation against total removal is keeping still functional tonsillar tissue behind and those arteries and nerves, which are located behind your tonsillar glands stayed protected. To reducing the size of your tonsils will not put your body at greater risk of developing infection later on!
