Snoring clinic

Snoring has often been the subject of jokes…

...without knowing it could be a major life shortening disease!

Can't Sleep because of snoring?

Almost every family suffers from an intrusive snorer, which can seriously influence their everyday lives. The snoring as a symptoms can be present from childhood till the golden age. The frustrating noise might the same but the reason is different.

What is snoring?

During sleep, as the whole body relax. As the air begins to flow through the airpipe, the surrounding tissues will start to vibrate where the airpipe narrowed the most.  This will create the unpleasant sounds as we recognize as snoring. The goal of the treatment is to identify narrowed airways with turbulent airflow and create a smooth airflow with pleasant sleep.

If the snoring is left untreated, it can cause significant health issues such as sleep disturbance, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, memory problems, headaches, and daytime fatigue, leading to an overall impairment in the quality of life.

When is it time to visit our snoring clinic?

  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Choking/pauses in breathing during sleep
  • Loud and irregular snoring
  • Severe morning headaches
  • Excessive night sweats
  • Intellectual and personality changes

Are we able to identify from where the snoring originates?

The consultation regarding the snoring problem is built on three types of investigation.
General snoring assessment
We ask several questions related to your sleeping pattern, therefore it is advisable to come with your partner who the witness to the snoring is.
Mapping the upper airway
We then use tiny flexible camera to map and record the airway from the tip of the nose till the voice box
Sleep study - either home or in the hospital
If during the consultation more severe sleep apnoe (OSA) had been suspected, we request a sleep study for you either in your home or in our hospital.

After reviewing the test results, we give you a personalized management plan.

Let us help you to solve your problem

After identifying the obstructed area, during surgery, the goal is to establish smooth maximal airflow and increase the stiffness of the vibrating soft tissue. That may involve surgery on the nostrils, nasal septum, turbinate, adenoid & tonsillar tissue, the soft palate and enlargement of the tongue base. If any reason the surgery is not advised we will advise you, how to pick the right non surgical devices, like mouthguard or sleep apnoe machine (CPAP)

Most of our operations are minimally invasive; therefore, recovery is smooth and quick

Obstructed Sleep Apnea

“Apnea” means “without breath” and is caused by relaxation of the tongue / soft palate / throat muscles in such way that the airway to the lungs is being blocked.

The sleeper is unable to catch a breath for 10 seconds or longer leading to crucial parts of the body (brain, heart etc.) being without oxygen.

Surgical Treatment

In most cases altered airflow causes a massive soft tissue vibration which in turn generating noise. The goal of the surgery is to identify and treat the collapsing airway and create a smooth airflow avoiding turbulence. It may involve surgery on the nasal septum with turbinate, adenoid & tonsillar tissue, a soft palate and enlargement of the tongue base. Most of our operations are minimally invasive, therefore recovery is smooth and quick.

CPAP machine

In certain conditions, there is no other option but to use a machine where Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) will keep your airway open. The continuous air is blown though a mask and prevent your airway collapsing during sleep.
